A cold Memorial Day.

 Monday, May 30

Memorial Day

Bill and I drove out to Bountiful to take some flowers for J.
It was a cold, wet day.

We got a chuckle out of the "severe drought" sign as we tried to stay dry haha.

Then we drove to West Valley to take flowers for Brian.

I had heard there would be food trucks at Neptune Park, so for some reason thought it would be a good idea to have the fam meet there for dinner and recreation. Did I mention it was a cold day? The skies had cleared a little and it had stopped raining... but it was still cold.

The grands were all good sports about it and seemed to enjoy being outside anyway.

We didn't want to eat at the tables because we needed every drop of sunshine we could get as we huddled on the cold cement to eat our food.

Another brilliant mom idea.
Happy Memorial Day♥

Engagement celebration.

 Friday, May 27

I wanted to get the family together for a casual dinner to celebrate Mar and Jonah's engagement.

For dessert we tried out a s'mores bar to see if it was something Mar and Jonah would like to have at their reception.

Everyone thought it was really fun.

Then we snapped a few pictures.

Let me just say that Mar thought my idea of using Scrabble tiles for a few pics was super cheesy, and she let me know it. Just tryin' to do somethin' cute, and since I have no original creative ideas, I have to rely on the creativity of others... so technically I didn't have the dumb idea haha.

I still think this picture is cute.

Congratulations you two!♥

Say yes to the dress.

 Tuesday, May 24

I had set up a couple of wedding dress shop appointments because I had been told an engagement was coming {wink}. I set one up on Tuesday at Sweetheart Bridal (I think where Shi found her dress), and one on Thursday at Bridal Closet (where Lex found her dress). Mar had invited her sisters and Jonah's mom to come along.

We all started by looking through the dresses and pulling some we thought Mar might like. Mar had an idea of what she wanted... fitted bodice, fuller skirt... but she was open to other styles too. There were so many beautiful dresses.

We liked the sleeve detail on this dress - very sheer with a lace pattern...

I believe this was the 2nd dress Mar tried on. We all really loved it.

This dress was really beautiful, but Mar really didn't want a fitted style.
(Funny side note: this is the dress Mar's friend Lauren wore for her wedding in Jan 2023. I only know this because I am playing some serious catch up on my blog, and this event has already occurred haha. I thought Lauren's dress was so pretty, so it was fun as I was going back through pics to see that Mar had tried it on.)

Mar loved the slit detail in this dress.

The train on this dress was beautiful.

Mar loved the beautiful {and fancy} beadwork on the bodice of this dress. It's crazy how a veil just makes a girl feel like a bride.

In the end, Mar went back to this dress.
We called it the "Christine" dress (from Phantom of the Opera) because of the flowy sleeves and beautiful lace pattern all over.

Seriously so pretty.

Reesey says, "Say yes to the dress!"

Cal Cal says, "Say yes to the dress!"

Mar was so close to saying yes, but we encouraged her to go to at least one more shop. I called Bridal Closet to see if we could come in that day, and they had an available appointment that afternoon. Shi and I dropped Cal off with Little Billy while Lex, Britt and Mar headed to the shop.

Once Shi and I arrived, Mar had already tried on a dress they had all loved.

Then she tried on a couple more.

This dress could have the sleeves customized, so the shop attendant had brought out a couple of styles to try.

In the end, she went back to this dress.
Flowy full skirt, sheer sleeves, darling ruched bodice, and a slit.
The shop attendant told us that they had just got this dress in. Mar was one of the first ones to try it on. She added a full length veil with crystals around the edge, which Mar loved.

Did she like it better than the Christine dress??
Discussion, opinions, and mirror-gazing ensued.

She decided she did.

She said yes to the dress!
Can't wait to see this beautiful bride on her wedding day ♥
