Gingerbread House Showdown.

Friday, Nov 26

The Syddall 2nd Biennial Gingerbread House Showdown

Two hour time limit.
$100 prize money at stake.
Ready... set... go!

Bill and I helped the kids.
Things I've learned: next time pre-assemble the kids' houses hahaha

Everyone worked so intently... I couldn't tell if it was fun or not ;-)

No smiles here:

These two look a little happier:

The last-minute flourish of finishing touches...

...and the clean-up nightmare haha.

The final results:

(the winners)

(Shi and Kody liked the back of their house better than the front)

A huge thank you to our neighbors, the Rowleys, for judging the houses. They took their role very seriously. There was, once again, a tie. Britt and Austin won the literal showdown, but they kindly shared their winnings with Mar and Jonah, who had tied with them but lost the final judgment.

Next time I will figure out a no-fail system for judging so there are no tied scores.
And I really think everyone should leave a winner of something, so I might do categories.
And I will assemble the kids' houses pre-activity.

Thanks to my family for being cheerful participants.
You are all amazing and have mad gingerbread house skills.

Thanks Giving 2021.

 Thursday, Nov 25

Thanks Giving.

This was the first Thanksgiving in our new house AND we had everyone there. It was fantastic.
Tay and Nae did the charcuterie board, Britt brought the pretzel jello, Lex did the stuffing and the green bean casserole, Shi did the sweet potato soufflé, and my MIL brought yams, fruit, and pies.
We had so. much. food.

We oven roasted a turkey, and smoked a turkey. They were both delicious.

A huge thank you to my SIL Lia for giving me these adorable turkey hats for the kids to color.

We were so happy to have Grandma and Grandpa Syddall, Marlee, Jessi, and Cannon join us.

Reese snoozed through dinner... which is the ideal, right?

I am so thrilled to have a dining room with lots of extra seating instead of a walk-in pantry + a sitting room. Best decision.

These two girls... eating my not-so-yummy dessert. The sweetest.
(the whipped cream and cheesecake part was good)

It was the best having everyone together.

Giving thanks for my family. I am so blessed.
